The technology that powers this site is all open-source.
The core of the website is a MySQL database, with php and Apache provideing the web front-end. A set of Ruby scripts parse and clean the data before it is loaded into MySQL. All of this runs under the Linux operating system, and because of the performace of these technologies, we are able to use a rather old machine as a server.
